He is connected in many cases to the consciouses and moral senses of people. That is why one of the more psychopathic, cold-hearted characters don't recognize Richard.

So, in the first Hotline Miami, Richard is basically one of Jacket's internal voices trying to get him to wake up from his coma and jar his memory, right? Well, if that's the case, and Richard is just Jacket trying to get himself to wake up, why does he appear to other characters, like the Henchman, Richter and Martin Brown?

• 9 yr. ago 'Where are we right now?' I always assumed it was just a visual representation of Jacket's subconscious for us, the viewer. If you mean the physical layout of the room, IIRC isn't it just Jacket's apartment? 'Why are we having this conversation?' The dark-room sections are metaphorical.
