Kill Team is intended to be played on a 22.4'x30' (57x76cm) board. For beginners a 2'x2' should be fine. Maybe use a little less terrain to give shooty teams a chance against melee ones, who will be stronger on smaller maps, but for a beginner you can probably just play as is whilst learning.
